Toronto Star work and wealth reporter Sara Mojtehedzadeh has won an Amnesty International Media Award for her piece on the working conditions and workers’ rights at Amazon Canada’s warehouses.

The awards, presented by Amnesty International, recognize outstanding human rights reporting by Canadian journalists.

Mojtehedzadeh’s lengthy investigation into Amazon’s working conditions was an expository piece furthering a national conversation on income inequality, and asking what is really being done for low-wage workers risking their health for a paycheque.

Tasks such as sorting through injury reports, creating a database that analyzed workplace injuries, and filing a Freedom of Information request were part of work that led to the story.
