Unifor Local 2000 Celebrates 140 Years of representing workers in BC

Dear Members of Unifor Local 2000,

This year marks a milestone for our local where we are celebrating 140 years of representing workers throughout British Columbia.  Our original charter is from the International Typographical Union dated June 2, 1884.  We are one of the oldest chartered unions in BC.

With this milestone we are holding a contest where members can submit art or a graphic that marks this occasion. The winning submission will be put on T-Shirts and perhaps some hats that can be purchased later and be featured at our Congress in October later this year.  You don’t have to be a graphic artist; a simple photo of a drawing can be sent in for consideration. We have many capable Graphic Artists in the local that could convert your art to something we can use on swag.

A lot has changed over the past 140 years. We started mainly as a union representing Typesetters, then other departments of newspapers. Various mergers added editorial, circulation, and advertising departments throughout BC. Later, we added radio, followed by Purdy’s Chocolates, and now television and radio again.  That is the challenge, to produce a design that depicts our history and future. We will have a committee review the submissions and select the winner.  If you are interested on serving on the committee please reach out to me at [email protected].  The winner will be notified by email or phone and their design will be posted on our website (www.unifor2000.ca).
