During the last Local 2000 Annual Congress a resolution was passed that set in motion the possible formation of a Local 2000 Retired Members’ Council. In order to determine if a Retired Members’ Council is feasible, a meeting of interested Local 2000 retired members is considered the first step. The Local has agreed to finance this meeting up to a specific amount. However, before allocating any money, the Local wishes to have a firm idea of the number of retired members attending.
In order to have a selection of retired members from throughout the province and the various sectors that make up Local 2000 it was suggested that each Area Council appoint two or three retired members from their area to attend this meeting. Currently we have 7 or 8 retired members that have expressed an interest.
John Savage, retired Vice-President of Local 2000, is requesting any retired member of Local 2000 interested in establishing a Retired Members’ Council to contact him at [email protected] or the Local 2000 office, [email protected] to discuss the possible establishment of a council.
The only other Retired Members’ Council in the media sector is with Toronto Local 591M and they have found that an active council is a major benefit to the retired members of that Local.
