Schop, Douglas Fraser “Dug”
APRIL 21, 1939 – OCTOBER 26, 2011 It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Dad.
Dad was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver with his parents when he was a young lad. He is predeased by his parents, Judith and Orville (Slim) and his long-time companion, Joy Langan. He is survived by his daughters, Randi (Larry), Karen (Greg) and their mother, Sylvia and Joy’s daughter, Lisa.
Dad began his printing career in 1957 with Pacific Press. He had a short stint at the Vancouver Times, but returned to Pacific Press (now PNG) until his retirement on January 1, 2003. Dad was an active and proud member of the ITU and CEP and involved in politics for many years, working on several NDP campaigns.
Dad had many interests and enjoyed many activities throughout his life, including instructor at VCC, business owner of “The Button Schop”, photography, carpentry, woodturning, wildlife enthusiast and publisher of the “Back Shop Bugle”.
Thank you to all Dad’s friends, fellow retirees and neighbours who visited and helped him and the family in so many ways. We would like to give special thanks to friends, Mike and Jo Anne Dawson, for their ongoing support to Dad and the family throughout the years.
Many thanks to the medical professionals at Surrey Cancer Clinic, RCH, ERH and McKenney Hospice who gave Dad such great care. Dad was a strong believer in socialized medicine. This belief was further strengthened by the excellent care he received throughout his battle with Melanoma. A family service will be held in Wadena, Saskatchewan next year.
Remembrance Open House is scheduled for: Saturday, Nov 26, 2011 from 1 p.m.to 3 p.m. at Old Orchard Hall, 646 Bentley Road, Port Moody.
