The Kelowna Daily Courier is looking for an energetic, web-savvy editor who works well with reporters and other editors to coordinate new coverage and distribution of page layouts for a seven-day a week publishing schedule. This is a full-time position.
Duties will include: supervising reporters an photographers in the development of story and photo assignments; handling some scheduling of editors; copy editing; page layout using Quark Xpress; assisting other editors; answering and responding to calls from the public; completing tasks assigned by the Managing Editor; supervising the newsroom in the absence of the Managing Editor; co-ordination and coverage of late-breaking news after hours and social media and website updates.
The successful candidate will have: the ability to work closely with the Managing Editor to coordinate direction, news coverage and special supplements; the experience and personality to lead reporters and photographers in new directions; needs good news judgment and the ability to clearly communicate story ideas and assignments; the ability to communicate effectively with staff and customers; experience in social media and website administration, be efficient and talented at page layout, and must be competent at scheduling and record keeping. At least five years experience in a daily newspaper environment.
