Wander is one of 19 independent game development companies working out of the Arcade co-working space at Southbank in Melbourne.

Set up just a year ago by the Game Developers’ Association of Australia, with support from the Victorian government, the space is emblematic of the future of the games development industry in Australia.

In the wake of the departure of some of the world’s biggest gaming studios after the global financial crisis, independent, homegrown studios are sprouting up in their place – and they’re moving south.

According to Deloitte, Queensland was home to 49 per cent of digital games industry workers in 2006-07, compared to 33 per cent in Victoria.
