VICTORIA—Wages will increase at least 16.3% over the next three years thanks to a new collective agreement ratified this evening by members of Unifor Local 114 at the Hotel Grand Pacific.
“Unifor members are setting a high standard in the hospitality sector,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “We look forward to building on what Local 114 has achieved at the Hotel Grand Pacific.”
Contract gains include a 5.25% increase in year one, 5% in year two, and 4.25% in year three. On top of the percentage increases, all workers will receive an additional flat rate increase of $0.25 to $0.75 per hour depending on their job classification.
The employer will also contribute an additional one percent to the pension plan. Health plan benefits, housekeeping workloads, and vacation all improve in the new collective agreement.
“Unifor is clearly the union for hospitality workers,” said Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle. “With each new agreement, Unifor members in the B.C. hospitality sector are raising the bar.”
Unifor represents over 10,000 workers in the hospitality industry across Canada, including workers at the nearby Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria.
Unifor Local 114 represents nearly160 Hotel Grand Pacific workers in the housekeeping, culinary, groundskeeping, serving, guest relations, maintenance, and engineering.
