Good news for thriller readers: Waylon Choy is back in another timely instalment of Vancouver veteran journalist Gary Engler’s Fake News Mystery series.
When we meet Choy, the protagonist of this promising new mystery series (like his creator, a former Vancouver Sun staffer), he has retired and taken up a new career as a novelist. But Choy keeps getting drawn back into reporting on the intrigue, conspiracies and mysteries that are so common in the era of Donald Trump and his alarmingly febrile base.
In the first three volumes of this series, Choy investigated the death of a Vancouver police chief, a possibly insurrectionary conspiracy that included serving police officers and a complex Ponzi scheme. He has also encountered enough colourful villains to cast a new Batman or Bond movie.
