All members of Local 2000, as well as their children and grandchildren, are eligible to apply for the 2025 Harold Dieno Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a member, their child or grandchild, to help cover the costs of post-secondary education, including skills training.

Applicants must email contact information, proof of post-secondary registration and acceptance, plus a 500-word essay or a five-minute digital audio file based on the following theme:

“How do tariffs impact Canadian workers and the economy, and how can labour unions best support Canadian workers in this time of uncertainty?”

Send entries to [email protected] (with Harold Dieno Scholarship in the subject line), or mail a hard copy to Harold Dieno Scholarship, Unifor Local 2000, 102 – 5783 176A Street, Surrey, BC, V3S6S6.

A committee from the Local Executive Board will choose the scholarship winner based on the essay or audio file. Past winners are not eligible.

The application deadline is August 15, 2025.  The winner will be notified by August 29, 2025.  Payment of the $1,000 will be made after the winner has been notified.

Please note that the winning essay will be published on our Local 2000 website and by submitting an entry for consideration, you give permission to publish it on our website.

Harold Dieno was a dedicated and active member of ITU/CWA Local 226, one of 2000’s predecessor locals, from 1954 until the early 1990s. He passed away in 2017 at age 93. He was known as an exemplary leader who was kind, wise, honest and generous.
