Queen’s Printer in Victoria, BC, has a one-year position available for a Pre-Press Technician. While this position is temporary, the hours are 35 per week and shiftwork may be required. $27.58 per hour.
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
• Completed a registered apprenticeship program or equivalent experience in a print and digital-related environment (including all aspects of layout, composition, imposition, proofreading, keyboarding and print – utilizing various workflow devices)
• Thorough and strong knowledge in a PC environment with demonstrated skill utilizing the following software: Adobe Creative Suite 6 (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the legislative process and the documents that relate to the operation of the provincial government.
• Thorough understanding of current typesetting best practices and trends.
• A clean keyboarding speed of a minimum of 50 w.p.m.
• Successful experience in troubleshooting and solving digital file issues.
• Knowledge in web design and/or html coding and use of Dreamweaver would also be an asset.
• Knowledge of document versioning and archival systems.
This position requires an individual with a high degree of attention to detail, ability to take direction and work independently. Strong computer skills and excellent communication skills also a must.
