Still recovering from a period of layoffs and restructuring, DreamWorks Animation has reported a loss of $38.6 million in the second quarter.

The Glendale-based company behind the Shrek and Kung Fu Panda movie franchises posted a loss of 45 cents a share for the quarter ended June 30, compared with a loss of 18 cents a share during the same period a year ago.

Earlier this year, the DWA posted a $54.8 million loss for the period ended March 31, 2015.

The second quarter’s losses included $20.9 million in restructuring-related charges. Excluding the charges, DreamWorks had a loss of $11.6 million, or 13 cents a share, in the quarter, the company said in a statement released ahead of its earnings call held on Tuesday.
