First Call for Nominations and Resolutions
Unifor Local 2000 Members!
Calling All Members!
This is the first call for the Twenty-Seventh Annual Congress of Unifor Local 2000.

WHAT IS CONGRESS?
Congress is our annual meeting of member representatives from each unit of Local 2000. While in session, congress is the main decision-making body of the entire Local. We go over all varieties of issues affecting members within the Local and debate, discuss and adopt resolutions submitted by members to Congress.  Each Council sends its representatives, as chosen by the members of that Council, to have your voice heard.  This year we will be meeting virtually.

NUMBER OF DELEGATES
Here are the number of representatives to be nominated to attend this year’s Congress, based on membership on March 31, 2025.

Black Press – 3 Delegates
Continental / Prince George Citizen – 3 Delegates
Pacific Newspaper Group – 4 Delegates
Purdys Chocolatier – 8 Delegates
Printing Industry – 3 Delegates
Broadcast – 3 Delegates

In addition, all Executive Board members are automatic delegates to the Annual Congress.

HOW TO BE NOMINATED
If you would like to attend Congress as a delegate, make it known, so that you can be nominated.
Delegates must be nominated, and then accept the nomination.

RESOLUTIONS FOR CONGRESS
This is also a call for resolutions.  Resolutions can include any issue you may be passionate about that you would like the Union to take action on.  It can also make changes to existing bylaws, or remove them altogether.  Resolutions passed in Local Congress can be passed on to the National Union Council.  Resolutions must be submitted to your employer Council Chair or chair-designate.  For a copy of the current local by-laws, please click HERE.

GUIDE FOR SUBMITTING RESOLUTIONS
This guide is for members wishing to submit a resolution for the consideration of the delegates to the Annual Congress.

GENERAL OUTLINE OF HOW TO WRITE A RESOLUTION
Resolution submission must use the clear language format and include the following:

Explain why you are submitting the resolution.
Explain what you want Unifor Local 2000 to do or not do;
Be no longer than 200 words;
Cover new issues or change current policies;
Cover only one main issue per resolution;
Use sentences that are clear, direct, and short;
Use words that readers will easily understand;
Be specific. Explain what you want to happen.

Sample Resolution in Clear Language Format:

Unifor Local 2000 Congress Resolution

Unifor Local 2000 will:
1. Encourage all locals to use the recommended format for resolutions; and
2. Encourage all locals to keep resolutions at 200 words or fewer

Because:

• The resolutions committee need proper signatures to know the resolution comes from a local and has been approved; and

• Using words like “will” and “because” helps delegates understand the resolution.

SUBMISSION OF THE RESOLUTION
Resolutions are typed verbatim as they are received. If the resolution is done incorrectly, it will not be considered at the Annual Congress as there will be no interpretation of what was intended. Resolutions go to your Council for debate and the Council will then submit it to Annual Congress.  If you need help writing a resolution or have questions, you can contact Brian at [email protected].

Please send all resolutions by 5 p.m. on September 5, 2025 to your Council Chair or chair-designate (listed previously) or by email to the union office at [email protected]. Please include “Resolution for Congress” in the subjuct line.
