A Surrey man has been charged with threatening a CNN anchor several times online over the past 18 months.

Surrey RCMP media officer, Const. Sarbjit Sangha, did not identify the American journalist who was targeted, but CBC earlier reported that it was Erin Burnett.

Sangha said that Nicholas Ryan Sullivan, 38, has been charged with five counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm through social media. He is to appear in court Friday.

Surrey RCMP worked with U.S. authorities, including the FBI, on the investigation. Sangha said that on July 10, Sullivan was arrested and his home was searched. He was released on conditions as the investigation continued.
