After two and half days of negotiations, a new agreement was reached and ratified unanimously by the members at SpeeDee Printing Solutions in Prince George on March 15.

“I really learned a lot, and found this bargaining session really engaging. I felt part of the process every step of the way” said Cary McComb, bargaining committee member from SpeeDee.

It is a three-year deal from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020.  The members are receiving hourly increases to their rates.  The wage increase is being paid at an hourly rate instead of a percentage at this unit.  Members will receive a 4.6% to 6.5% wage increase depending on their hourly rate over the course of the collective agreement. Wages are retroactive to January 1, 2018.
There were also increases to the employer’s contribution to member’s RRSP plans in the last two years and an increase to the amount paid for prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses.
We were also able to secure language under the Layoff article that management will inform the Union prior to the member if a layoff becomes necessary.  SpeeDee has also ensured us that they will send job postings to the Union in the future and they signed onto Unifor’s Pharmacare campaign as a partner to lobby government to bring in a national Pharmacare program.
There was a lot of open dialogue with the company and we hope that this will strengthen our working relationship with them.
