Congratulations to Savannah Hatch, winner of the 2017 Harold Dieno scholarship. This year’s essay topic was: What can unions do to attract more young workers?
All three judges chose Savannah’s essay as their top pick. They described her entry as a well-written and researched piece that was concise and easy to read.
Savannah will attend Vancouver Island University, where she will be minoring in digital media studies. She plans on spending the $1,000 prize money on a much-needed laptop.
The annual Harold Dieno scholarship is a $1,000 bursary to help with post-secondary costs. Local 2000 members, their children and grandchildren are eligible to apply. Volunteer judges on Local 2000’s executive choose the recipients from a pool of entries.
