The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette plans to lay off 136 employees, according to a filing with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, as the newspaper makes the shift to a new printing operation.
The paper is reducing its workforce at its Boulevard of the Allies and Preble Avenue locations, the filing said.
Layoffs are expected to begin on or about July 28, or during the 14-day period thereafter, according to the filing, and bumping rights are not available for affected employees.
The employees are represented by unions and notices were sent to the Teamsters Local 211, Pressman/Paper Handlers Local 9, International Association of Machinists Local 98, the Graphic Communications International Union Local 24, Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ and CWA Mailers Local 22. It does not include newsroom employees. A Post-Gazette spokesperson didn’t provide immediate detail.
