Unifor 2000 President Brian Gibson (third from left) made a $5,000 donation on behalf of Unifor’s Social Justice Fund to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

“I was given a tour of their amazing facility. They have a mission to provide healthy meals and plan meal packs four weeks in advance for folks facing food insecurity. They have seen a rise in usage currently about 16,000 people per week. Their warehouse was amazing. They wanted me to pass along their thanks for the donation,” said Gibson in a social media post.

“This year the dramatic rise in the cost of living, particularly for groceries, is resulting in food banks across the country seeing record-breaking numbers of visitors and as a result, are struggling to keep up with growing demand,” said Unifor in a statement. “Unifor recognizes the rise of workers and families across Canada facing food insecurity and, in response, will be donating a total is $250,000 to 65 food banks across Canada from our Social Justice Fund for the holiday season.”

Joining Gibson for the presentation were, from left, Ninna Salango, Caroline Wallace and the food bank’s Director of Development Greg Douglas.
