The Prince George Citizen Description The Prince George Citizen’s newsroom is expanding. We’re adding two new reporters, and we’re looking for the right people to join us here in B.C.’s northern capital.
The Citizen was sold by Glacier Media to local owners earlier in 2024, marking a relaunch of the weekly publication with an even stronger local focus. To get there, we need reporters who are ready to jump right in and tackle whatever comes their way each day in this busy news market.
The ideal candidates are curious, energetic and adventurous. As general assignment reporters, their workweek may include covering a city council meeting, reporting on a trial, writing a heartwarming community profile or jumping on breaking news. It’s never the same day twice in the Citizen newsroom.
We’re looking for a mix of candidates, from fresh-out-of-J-school graduates to seasoned veterans. This position pays a competitive wage and includes benefits.
This is not a remote job. The Citizen still operates out of a physical office with a bustling newsroom. Readers walk in off the street to offer news tips. Joining us means relocating to Prince George, the regional hub for this part of the province. Despite its smaller size, PG is a diverse community with all the amenities of other major cities, including dining, shopping, sports, entertainment, farmers’ markets, a university and a college. Housing prices and rents are lower here than in other parts of the country. If you enjoy the outdoors, this is the place for that, with endless lakes and rivers, trails and vistas.
Qualifications A college diploma or university degree in journalism is a must, as is a reliable vehicle.
